Dental Implants in Topeka, Kansas
After tooth loss, implant dentistry can improve your smile’s health, function, and appearance. Implants are the number one option for replacement teeth. They prevent the jawbone from deteriorating, stop remaining teeth from shifting, support the implant securely, and look totally natural. Even better is that dental implants can replace a single tooth, several missing teeth, and even all of your teeth.
The dental implant procedure can be used to hold several types of restorations. At Topeka ProDental, Dr. Jason Weber can attach a dental crown, bridge, or dentures to dental implant posts. Read more to learn about the three dental implant options available.
#1 Replace a Single Missing Tooth
Suppose you are missing one tooth due to an accident, periodontal disease, or much-needed tooth extraction. In that case, we can pair a dental implant with a dental crown to maintain your oral health. We place the artificial tooth root into the empty socket left by your missing tooth.
After the implant placement procedure, you will enter into a period of osseointegration. The titanium post requires three to six months to fuse to the jaw bone. The surrounding bone forms around the implant, essentially making it a part of your body. During this time of healing, you may ask for temporary restoration.
Once osseointegration is complete, a custom-made crown matched perfectly to your natural teeth fills in the gap and gives you an entirely natural-looking appearance for the long term.
#2 Replace Several Missing Teeth
If you are missing a couple or more teeth in a row, a dental bridge is the best option for restoration. A bridge has two or more artificial teeth fused to replace several missing teeth in a row.
Unlike a dental crown, implant-supported bridges do not require one dental implant for each lost tooth. We can use fewer implants to hold your bridge in place.
A partial denture can also replace several missing teeth. The denture is custom-made to fill empty spaces in your upper or lower arch due to missing teeth. Strategically placed dental implants hold the partial denture in place securely.
#3 Replace the Upper or Lower Arch
A full denture is probably the best solution if you are missing all of your teeth in your upper or lower arch. In this case, choose implant-retained denture technique to replace all of your teeth. This approach places a maximum of four dental implants in the arch.
A full denture is attached to the four implants and completely restores your smile. You can talk and eat confidently, knowing there is no more embarrassing slippage with removable dentures.
